Privacy policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
This policy explains what information myGAAT collects, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to keep it short and clear. If anything is unclear, email support@mygaat.co.uk.
Who we are
myGAAT is a revision app run in the United Kingdom. We are the "controller" of your information, which means we decide how it is used and are responsible for keeping it safe. You can contact us at support@mygaat.co.uk.
Who myGAAT is for
myGAAT is for students in Year 10 to Year 13 (aged 13 to 19). You cannot sign up if you are under 13. If you are under 18, we ask for a parent or carer's email when you sign up.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your email address and password, or your Apple or Google sign-in | To create your account and let you sign in. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so we cannot read them. |
| Your username | To show your scores on leaderboards without showing who you are. |
| Whether you are under 18 | To decide whether we need a parent or carer's email. We check your date of birth on your phone and only keep a yes or no, not the date. |
| A parent or carer's email (under 18s only) | To tell them about your account and, in future, to ask for their agreement where the law needs it. |
| Your school year, subjects and exam boards | To show you the right questions and put you in the right leaderboard. |
| Your scores, XP and when you played | To run battles, leaderboards and the monthly challenge. |
| Your avatar look and outfit | To show your avatar in the app and on leaderboards. |
| Whether you subscribe | To unlock subscriber features. Apple or Google take the payment and we never see your card details. |
| Messages you send us | To answer your questions and reports. |
Some settings, such as notifications and light or dark mode, are stored only on your phone.
We do not collect your real name, school, address, location, contacts, photos or microphone. We do not use advertising or tracking tools.
What other people can see
Other students can see your username, your avatar and your best scores on the leaderboard for your year and subject. They cannot see your email, your age or anything else. You can hide yourself from leaderboards in the Me tab.
Our legal reasons for using your information
- To provide the app you signed up for (contract): your account, battles, leaderboards and subscriptions.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the app safe and fair, such as blocking rude usernames and stopping cheating.
- Legal obligation: keeping records the law requires, such as prize payments.
Who we share it with
We only share information with companies that help us run myGAAT, and only what they need:
- Supabase stores our database and handles sign-in and sign-in emails.
- Apple and Google handle sign-in if you choose it, app downloads and subscription payments.
- Our email provider handles messages sent to support@mygaat.co.uk.
Some of these companies may store information outside the UK. When they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK data protection law. We never sell your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your account until you delete it. When you ask us to delete it, we delete your account and everything linked to it within 30 days. If you win a prize, we keep a record of the prize for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information
- stop or limit how we use it
Email support@mygaat.co.uk to do any of these. A parent or carer can also ask on behalf of a child. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
